Pain anywhere in the head or neck region. The following are some commonly seen types:
Tension Headaches are caused by tight muscles in the neck and upper back,anxiety and/or poor posture. Commonly described as a tight band around the head. According to the Mayo Clinic it is the most common type of headache.
Migraines are a severe form of headaches that can affect quality of life. Some migraines are preceded by an aura (sensory warning) – which can include tingling in the arm, flashing lights, or blind spots. Pain is usually located in one area of the head and can last hours to days.
Cervicogenic Headaches originate in the neck and are very common after an auto accident. Pain is generally centered to one area of the head and is described as a dull ache.
Commonly associated with auto accidents. Anytime the head is quickly forced forward and then back again, a whiplash injury is possible. Symptoms can occur directly after the accident but are commonly delayed until several days after the accident. Symptoms include headaches; pain in the neck, back and shoulders; and sensory disturbances in the arms and legs.
Temporomandibular (Jaw) Dysfunction can present as pain with chewing or at rest, clicking or popping of the joint and open/close locking of the jaw.
